Can you say “FLASHY…..RIGHT”?. That should have been the theme for KC Platinum’s Black Tie Affair & Pisces Bash at Dailey’s Saturday, March 2nd, 2K8. The flyer called this 'A night of Elegence, Style & Fashion' as Mr. Platinum opted for a Black Tie Affair, where many chose to adorn themselves in black & white with no (actual) regard to the theme.
Since we here at Chat ‘Bout Cleveland love the bashes just as much as we love fashion (hence why we love theme dances) we cannot pass up an opportunity to deliver this brief public service announcement regarding fashion terms. Okay, here we go:
A Black Tie Invite gives you the option of wearing a tuxedo or
That being said – NOTE TO ALL PROMOTERS- When having a theme dance please be clear and concise of the dress. For example- Pink and White means PINK and WHITE, ‘An All White Affair’ means ALL WHITE and yes a Black Tie Affair means cocktail dresses, etc. No, we were not expecting the fellas to be dress in a tuxes (well, except Eye with the black velvet pinstriped tux with the white fedora to match - DAMN!), but if it was an all black and white affair – it’s easy to say. But all in all the bash SELL OFF, no matter what the masses wore (did I just say that?)
Now back to the Bash.
Although there where no tuxes in site, there was a Black Tie dinner provided by Newlyweds, Mr. & Mrs. Platinum. Chat ‘Bout arrived a little late for the dinner but we heard the menu consisted of lobster, crab legs, a shrimp pasta dish, baked potatoes and jerk chicken. DELICIOUS!
As Chat ‘Bout reached the bash at an earlier than usual 1am, the dance was packed as the masses enjoyed the tunes from Sample Jack’s Lava Ranks. Chat ‘Bout could feel the vibes were rising as Lava played a few of the latest dancehall tunes, followed by the I-am-going-to-get-crunk-segment filled with the latest R&B and Rap tunes to bring the crowd to another level just in time to bring them back to the dancehall with another string of older dancehall tunes.
The man of the hour, KC Platinum, took to the mic and delivered his usual big ups and thanks to all his friends and family. Although there was a sea of black and white at this dance, Mr. Platinum once again stood out with his crisp white shirt, cuffed trousers and velvet vest.
Soon after, KC’s special guest, Marc Dragon from NYC, took over the sounds as he delivered his usual special mixes of both old and new tunes. I don’t know about you, but we always love the vibes Marc brings when he plays. From the days at Dad’s Hall to now, there is still a certain type of energy he can bring to a dance.
As Star Temple Ricky Hype took over the sounds, he took advantage of the large amount of females at this dance. In true dancehall fashion, Ricky tried to stir things up by playing tunes like, “Wife”, causing a brief uproar and he threw up the question of “Who is a Wifey?, Who is a Matey?” (But when you think about it, who can really tell?) Hey, Ricky – that dance is not until THIS August, but nice try though….
As usual, the big annual dances bring out a few dancehall celebs in the place. Chat 'Bout was able to spot The Flava Unit Crew (coming to you with the Construction Dance on March 29th), The Uprising Crew, Brokefoot, The Untouchable Crew (bringing you a night called “Chaka Chaka” on March 22nd – see previous post), Dancehall Diva Ms. Trini – always representing Cleveland while her thing in Columbus, Pittsburgh, Detroit and beyond, Breed, The Designing Women Crew, and of course New Horizon, and Star Temple.
All in all, the nite was big and we are certain that Mr. Platinum was pleased with the amounts of people who come out to support him year after year. Chat ‘Bout had such a blast that we couldn’t even get a snap of the man of the evening! Maybe we’ll have better luck next year!
So, just in case you missed the bash, slip on your best cocktail number or your tux and enjoy our pics….
This is going to be a great time to get,
Bashy
It's a family Affair - KC Platinum's Sisters Monica, Marcia and Sophia
...Trust me, there were alot of girls at the dance!
