"Hot Mondays" Special Edition: Birthnite Bash for Big Belly Man Monk (It's Monday Night - Do you know where the bash is????)

If you are one of the poor soles, (like many of us) who have a weekday work schedule, you may not have the opportunity to drop by “Hot Mondays” at Dailey’s Blue Mountain Inn. Word on the street is that the Monday nights at Dailey’s are comparable to ANY Saturday night bash…

On April 7th it’s all about New Horizon Promotions as they present a special edition of ‘Hot Mondays’ with a Birthnite Bash for Big Belly Man Monk. Other invited sounds for the bash include Star Temple, Sample Jack, Organik Sounds, Hollow Point, and Youth High Power….

We all know New Horizon’s Monk as one of the leading selector for the sound, but dancehall fans also have come to know Monk’s dancing skills in the dancehall as well. His moves are original and energetic (to say the least) and we cannot WAIT to see what he comes up with for his birthnite bash….

Young, Restless and always-

Cleveland and Pittsburgh Link Up! Vybz Machine is coming…..

It's all about Youth Promotions alongside Ten2One Promotions as they present a night called "Dutty Vibes" on Saturday, April 5th at Daileys Blue Mountain Inn. Pittsburgh mega sound, Vybz Machine links up with Cleveland sounds Star Temple, Megga Force and New Horizon, for a night full of big tunes and pure madness!

Vybz Machine is more than just a sound, its all about the music and entertainment. Who is Vybz Machine, you ask? Chat ‘Bout was able to find some info on the sound…..
Vybz Machine, of Pittsburgh, PA, was the brainchild of King Fudge (now known as Fudgie Springer). Although Springer didn’t have a strong musical background, he did have a true LOVE for reggae and dancehall music. Like most Midwestern cities, the dancehall scene in Pittsburgh was lacking when it came to new music, trends and the latest dances. Although Springer attempted to close the gap by getting the latest tunes from Jamaica to the local sound systems, it was a small remedy to a bigger problem of getting Pittsburgh more updated with the latest dancehall tunes. By 2004, Springer linked up with friends Orio (now Unda Taker) and Butta (now Madd Sonic) to form Vybz Machine Entertainment.

In an effort to further promote dancehall, King Fudge was the featured host of the Pittsburgh reggae dat net radio show and website (http://www.pittsburghreggae.net/). As the popularity of the sound grew, King Fudge was soon dubbed as "the woman dem selector” and changed his name to Fudgie Springer.

MC Faya Ras joined Vybz Machine International in June 2005. Although Faya Ras was not affiliated to any sound system in the area, Faya Ras’ addition to the sound took Vybz Machine to the ‘next level’ as Faya Ras was regarded as one of the best MCs in Pittsburgh. The killer combination of Fudgie Springer and Faya Ras helped the sound win the first Pittsburgh sound clash in 2006.

The third component of Vybz Machine is the Undataker. As one of the original members of Vybz Machine, the Undataker is one the most valuable pieces of the sound. In addition to being a skilled DJ responsible for several of the sounds remixes, The Undataker is equally skilled in the field of graphic and web design.

In addition to touring and playing in many major dancehall markets such as NYC, Chicago, and Detriot, Vybz Machine has reached international acclaim by playing in various cities including Japan (alongside Mighty Crown) and Germany.

For more information or various audios on this sound, go to www.pittsburghreggae.net, www.vybzmachine.net or, http://www.myspace.com/fudgiespringer.
Now is the time, Cleveland! We are definitely looking forward to coming out to hear the sounds of the WORLD FAMOUS, Vybz Machine!

See you there!,

Cocoa Tea Records Reggae Song for Obama (....still not convinced?)

As the race for the ‘white’ house continues to heat up, we thought this would be appropriate.......

From news.yahoo.com:

Barack Obama has won what could be an influential endorsement among reggae fans: Jamaican singer Cocoa Tea, who's backing the Illinois senator in a new tune.

"This is not about class nor color, race nor creed," the veteran dancehall crooner sings in a version posted on the video Web site Dailymotion. "It's about the changes, what the Americans need."

The song goes on to call Obama a "trendsetter" and urge Americans "to unite as one" behind him.

Cocoa Tea, whose real name is

Calvin Scott, said Sunday that the tribute song "Barack Obama" will be released this week by New York's VP Records.
"The young people who are supporting him want change - and that's what he represents," said the singer, whose laid-back lyrical style made him a local star in the 1980s.

He becomes the second major

Caribbean musician to endorse Obama in song, joining Trinidadian calypso star Mighty Sparrow who recently recorded a track titled "Barack the Magnificent."
For more information on the artist Cocoa Tea, go to: www.myspace.com/cocoateason.
For more information on President Obama, go to: http://www.barackobama.com/, and YES he has a My Space also, go to www.myspace.com/barackobama.

FYI: The tune was posted on youtube.com a few days ago.

Go to www.youtube.com, type Cocoa Tea Obama in the search box. Enjoy!

Flava Unit presents: "Construction Outfit Affair" Saturday, March 29th (for all you hardworking people...)

Flava Unit presents: Construction Outfit Affair, Saturday, March 29th!

The flyers calls this ‘a night for all the hardworking people’ as Flava Unit presents a ‘Construction Outfit Affair” at Dailey’s Blue Mountain Inn on Saturday, March 29th. Adding to this hype event will be music by "The Big Bad Mighty" Sample Jack featuring Lava Ranks. Speaking of Hype, remember Flava Unit was the crew that brought us the "Night of Music and Dancing" featuring John Hype (and you all remember how that dance sell off, right?)

As Cleveland’s dancehall scene continues to grow with themes dances, Chat ‘Bout cannot wait to see what the masses will come up with to represent themselves. Will we see hot gals dressed in white tees, suspenders and jeans (don’t forget the hardhat!) or will we see rude boys dress in coveralls and bandanas? Hmmmm, since this is the FIRST construction outfit theme I have seen in Cleveland, this is definitely a CAN’T MISS event!

Flava Unit promises prizes galore for the best male and female outfit, so get creative…
And don't forget to particitpate in our poll about this event!

See you there (in your hardhats!)

Gangster for life Mavado Sell off on Cleveland!

Bashment Review: KC Platinum's Black Tie Affair & Pisces Bash (w/ Photos!)

Can you say “FLASHY…..RIGHT”?. That should have been the theme for KC Platinum’s Black Tie Affair & Pisces Bash at Dailey’s Saturday, March 2nd, 2K8. The flyer called this 'A night of Elegence, Style & Fashion' as Mr. Platinum opted for a Black Tie Affair, where many chose to adorn themselves in black & white with no (actual) regard to the theme.

Since we here at Chat ‘Bout Cleveland love the bashes just as much as we love fashion (hence why we love theme dances) we cannot pass up an opportunity to deliver this brief public service announcement regarding fashion terms. Okay, here we go:

A Black Tie Invite gives you the option of wearing a tuxedo or
formal dress, but it should clue you into the formality of the event, meaning a dark suit and tie would be your other option. Women wear cocktail dresses, long dresses or dressy evening separates. But in some trendier cities like New York or Los Angeles, it could mean a black shirt, no tie with a tux. (Wikipedia.com)

That being said – NOTE TO ALL PROMOTERS- When having a theme dance please be clear and concise of the dress. For example- Pink and White means PINK and WHITE, ‘An All White Affair’ means ALL WHITE and yes a Black Tie Affair means cocktail dresses, etc. No, we were not expecting the fellas to be dress in a tuxes (well, except Eye with the black velvet pinstriped tux with the white fedora to match - DAMN!), but if it was an all black and white affair – it’s easy to say. But all in all the bash SELL OFF, no matter what the masses wore (did I just say that?)

Now back to the Bash.

Although there where no tuxes in site, there was a Black Tie dinner provided by Newlyweds, Mr. & Mrs. Platinum. Chat ‘Bout arrived a little late for the dinner but we heard the menu consisted of lobster, crab legs, a shrimp pasta dish, baked potatoes and jerk chicken. DELICIOUS!

As Chat ‘Bout reached the bash at an earlier than usual 1am, the dance was packed as the masses enjoyed the tunes from Sample Jack’s Lava Ranks. Chat ‘Bout could feel the vibes were rising as Lava played a few of the latest dancehall tunes, followed by the I-am-going-to-get-crunk-segment filled with the latest R&B and Rap tunes to bring the crowd to another level just in time to bring them back to the dancehall with another string of older dancehall tunes.

The man of the hour, KC Platinum, took to the mic and delivered his usual big ups and thanks to all his friends and family. Although there was a sea of black and white at this dance, Mr. Platinum once again stood out with his crisp white shirt, cuffed trousers and velvet vest.

Soon after, KC’s special guest, Marc Dragon from NYC, took over the sounds as he delivered his usual special mixes of both old and new tunes. I don’t know about you, but we always love the vibes Marc brings when he plays. From the days at Dad’s Hall to now, there is still a certain type of energy he can bring to a dance.

As Star Temple Ricky Hype took over the sounds, he took advantage of the large amount of females at this dance. In true dancehall fashion, Ricky tried to stir things up by playing tunes like, “Wife”, causing a brief uproar and he threw up the question of “Who is a Wifey?, Who is a Matey?” (But when you think about it, who can really tell?) Hey, Ricky – that dance is not until THIS August, but nice try though….

As usual, the big annual dances bring out a few dancehall celebs in the place. Chat 'Bout was able to spot The Flava Unit Crew (coming to you with the Construction Dance on March 29th), The Uprising Crew, Brokefoot, The Untouchable Crew (bringing you a night called “Chaka Chaka” on March 22nd – see previous post), Dancehall Diva Ms. Trini – always representing Cleveland while her thing in Columbus, Pittsburgh, Detroit and beyond, Breed, The Designing Women Crew, and of course New Horizon, and Star Temple.

All in all, the nite was big and we are certain that Mr. Platinum was pleased with the amounts of people who come out to support him year after year. Chat ‘Bout had such a blast that we couldn’t even get a snap of the man of the evening! Maybe we’ll have better luck next year!

So, just in case you missed the bash, slip on your best cocktail number or your tux and enjoy our pics….

This is going to be a great time to get,

Bashy

Rita Marley to produce first ever biopic of Bob Marley

Internationally, the name Marley has become synonymous with reggae music and the culture of Jamaica. It is no coincidence that the talented young Rita Anderson, who was raised from early childhood in Trench Town, was destined to become an integral part of the musical Marley family. She made the acquaintance of a local Trench Town youth, Robert Nesta Marley and love, faith and music became their bond. In 1966 they were married and their lives became forever entwined.
....Fast forward over 4 decades later and the love continues as Rita Marley is executive producing the first-ever biopic of her late husband Bob Marley, and if she has it her way, the reggae icon's daughter-in-law R&B singer Lauryn Hill will portray her onscreen.
The Weinstein Co. will produce and distribute a big-screen version of her 2004 autobiography

"No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley," a chronicle of the musician's childhood and their tumultuous 15-year marriage through his death from cancer in 1981.
"Lauryn would be ideal (to play me)," said Marley. "She sees my life as her life."
Her husband's son with Janet Hunt, Rohan, is married to the troubled former Fugees singer, who largely disappeared from the music scene after her Grammy-winning 1998 debut solo album, "The Miseducation of Lauren Hill."
Hill will vet the adaptation currently being written by Lizzie Borden ("Working Girls"), who is down in Jamaica completing the script.
The untitled project from producer Rudy Langlais ("The Hurricane") is tentatively set to begin filming early next year with a projected late 2009 release date. Langlais said the film will be an "epic romance," including the Marleys' life and the assassination attempt on the couple. "It's miraculous that Rita is still here after being shot in the head," he says.
The singer had 13 children, including several from extramarital affairs.
At least some of the project will be filmed in Jamaica, though other locations will be used to take advantage of tax rebates. The feature could arrive before Martin Scorsese's authorized feature documentary on the performer, set for release on what would be Marley's 65th birthday, February 6, 2010.
The musician will be played by two actors, one portraying him at age 15 and another as an adult, with the option of the original songs, covers sung by an actor or a "Ray"-style blend of the two all possible for the soundtrack.
Marley says her grandson Stefan is "the spitting image" of the singer and would be perfect for the role. Langlais adds that while the project will not necessarily be star-driven, all casting decisions will be made late in the year.
Marley plans to be on the set every day. "Every inch of me is in there," she says, "and I don't want a fairy tale or Cinderella story." details of the first ever bio-pic of the late Bob Marley.
