Just in time for Christmas - Ocean Wave: STILL giving back!

As much as Chat ‘Bout Cleveland LOVES a great dance, it is with pleasure that we have the opportunity to showcase an event that focuses on those giving back to the community…..

Big Up Ocean Wave as they sponsored a Christmas Edition of ‘Unity for the Community’ at their restaurant located at 12526 Kinsman Avenue. Ocean Wave said thanks to their supporters by sponsoring a day which included a free holiday meal, pictures with Santa for the kids and gift bags. This event was the follow up to their first ‘Unity in the Community’ event held last August.

93.1 WZAK supported the event with an interview with proprietor Angel Robinson during the Kim Johnson Show as well as several radio spots on the station. Thanks to WZAK and others spreading the word, the event had a great turnout!

Chat ‘Bout was on hand to witness the crew at Ocean Wave on their toes as they catered to a packed house from Noon until its end at about 6pm…..

So, Cleveland (and beyond), next time you are in the Mount Pleasant Area, be sure to visit Ocean Wave, stop buy say hello to Ms. Angel or Eye and show your support for them with your generous patronage…

Enjoy a few pics from the event – Guaranteed to give you that warm and fuzzy CHRISTMAS feeling!

Happy Holidays!

Bashment Review: Makka B presents 'A Christmas Affair Bash'

Cleveland got an early Christmas present this year as Makka B hosted ‘A Christmas Bash Affair’ featuring Black Chiney straight from Miami this past Saturday. The crowd featured a mixture of dancehall veterans as well as a few new faces to Dailey’s Blue Mountain Inn, which seemed to create a unique vibe to this dance…..

Black Chiney kept the crowd moving with a variety of dancehall favs from artists like Mavado and Busy Signal. But in true Cleveland fashion, the crowd REALLY got hype on tunes such as Alicia Keys ‘No One’ and ‘I Get Money’ by 50 Cent. The crowd kicked into full hype mode as Selector Dinero tuned the masses in to the dancehall version of ‘Duffel Bag Boy’. The R&B/ Rap set was followed by a string of dancehall oldies which the crowd seemed to appreciate a little more… (Come on y’all – when are we going to UPGRADE?)

Soon the dance floor parted only to find a cutesy cutesy Ms. Karmen, from KarKell representing Minneapolis (loving the bow, ma!). This gal definitely made her entrance as she set the dance off with the Raging Bull. Big Up Karmen as she kept the party moving all night long. For more on Karmen from KarKell, log on to
www.myspace.com/charmenkarmenwithak.

In the crowd getting some holiday cheer were dancehall regulars, Maggie and Sharon Untouchable, Dylan (with a oh-so-cute date), the Designing Women Crew, Blacka, Star Temple Ricky Hype (getting ready for his 3 day birthday extravaganza reaching from Columbus to Cleveland), Family and Ms. Trini.

Yes, Makka B does it again as he keeps coming with great event after event for the masses this year. Who could forget his sell off Birthnite Bash, the emergence of Jiggy Fridays, and the dance featuring Tony Matterhorn? And with Bass Odyssey coming in 2008, who can stop you? Speaking of Bass Odyssey, what are YOU wearing?

Dear Santa, please bring the vibes back for Christmas…..

(***Big Sigh***)

Let’s just Chat ‘Bout Cleveland were somewhat disappointed at the Luciano turnout last weekend... and rumor has it - literally. All the rumors has the dancehall community up and out. As large and great as the Baby Cham show turned out the previous week, we just knew Luciano would bring the vibes and the masses to this event. Since it has been about 2 years since Jah Messenger had an appearance in Cleveland, I was sure this event would sell off, but it was quite the contrary..

Not taking anything away from his impeccable performance – worth the (long) wait, needless to say, Luciano always delivers and for those who were in attendance, not only gave the crowd a great show (with tunes ‘Sweep over my Soul’ and ‘It’s me Again, Jah’) Luciano, as always, sends the crowd with a feeling of purpose….

As we look forward to 2008 were just Chatting ‘Bout (ShamelessPlug) how the vibes were FINALLY returning to the scene and after a good two year run of great bashes and stageshows. (Remember, since the relocation of one Johnny Ouch & Crew) All the bashes all the themes, all that sell off - then damn.... ll Chat Bout wants for Christmas besides peace, blessings and prosperity is most importantly, the vibes to the dancehall scene. There are a lot of BIG Dances coming up in the next few weeks including Makka B’s Christmas Bash,

followed by Breed's Annual Birthnite Bash (featuring Makka Diamond) on January 1st, also in January we have Blacka BIG Birthnite Bash featuring Stone Love,

and (oh-my-Gucci) Movado in February. If that doesn’t have your bashment calendar for 2008 full, how about the Annual Pink and White Valentine’s Dance, and Huey's Big Bash with Glamour Wayne and Metro Media in March?
Okay, that’s enough bashment to get you to the Spring. So come on Cleveland, keep on with the good vibes, keep the fallen in your prayers, hope for the best and the vibes going! So before we get too down and out, Santa, please give the vibes back toCleveland's Dancehall Scene!

Bashment Review: Baby Cham in Cleveland! Pure Madness!!!!!!!

Well… where do we begin to tell you about the bash featuring Baby Cham AKA Cham at the Club Center last Saturday? Let’s start with if you missed it – SHAME ON YOU!! Not since the white hot bash this summer with Firelinks has the masses enjoyed themselves at this venue. We can all agree that Stone Love in August was (too damn) hot, Tony Matterhorn was cool, and what I can say about Baby Cham is that this bash was pure madness!

As Chat ‘Bout entered the Club Center at a fashionably late 2am, the bash was in full swing with partygoers feeling the tunes of the featured sounds Star Temple and of course the hosts of the evening, New Horizon. Sample Jack was soon to play as they introduced the crowd to some of their new dub plates and got the crowd hype for the featured artist. The MC of the evening, KC Platinum, kept all his gals in the crowd warmed up with the usual big ups to the hard working independent women, hair stylists, beautiful ladies, etc., etc,…..

Keeping the crowd on edge, performances from Willpower and Morning Star worked the audience for hypeness from Sparticus leading to Blacka as he bought the house down with his favorite tune, “Let It Be”. Chat ‘Bout could definitely feel the love from the crowd during his performance which adds even more anticipation to his HUGE birthnight bash next month, featuring Stone Love.

No faster than the crowd could answer the usual, “Are you ready for Showtime?”, on comes Cham to the stage immediately hitting the crowd with ‘Grounds Man’, followed by dancehall favorites such as ‘So Long Gal’, ‘Mek Jamaica feel proud’, and ‘Strange Things’. Soon Cham began calling for the longtime fans before gracing the crowd with tunes like, ‘Que Sara’ and ‘Suck Ya Mamma’. In true nostalgic fashion, reminiscent of my early dancehall days of Dad’s Hall, these tunes definitely caught me at a, ‘Damn-I-forgot-he-made-that-moment’. By the time he hit us with his recent set of tunes like, ‘Vitamin S’ and ‘Suicidal Mi Buumboclaat’, I’d forgiven him for not singing one of my favs, ‘Middle Finger’. But who cares? What he did sing (and I loved) was his collabo tunes, ‘Boom Boom’ – with out Rihanna (Thanks), ‘Tables will Turn’ and
‘This is Why I’m Hot’ without missing a beat. By the time Cham sang ‘Ghetto Story’, I, like the rest of the crowd was completely satisfied with the bash the contained more show and less dance – as we seemed to like it sometimes….

Although Chat ‘Bout noticed a lot of newbies in the crowd (on account of the Z 107.9 coverage – I’m sure), there were a few dancehall celebs in the crowd that usually come out to big dances. We immediately spotted Lady Sypda in alongside her long lost dance partner, Storm. The always in fashion God Bless Crew was answering the call of metallic – which seemed to be the ladies choice of attire the evening. Also in attendance were the Designing Women Crew, The Untouchable Crew, Maggie and Sharon, Breed, Leisa Engel, Ms. Trini, Ocean Wave Eye, and Marc Dragon. The blast from the past again goes to The Diamond Girls on the laid back and chill tip. Now that the scene is getting back to where it used to be, something tells me that we will be seeing a lot more of den girls that once fade make a comeback in 2008……

Big Up to New Horizon - excuse me, New Horizon Productions for keeping a NICE dance with great vibes and even better tunes. Keep it up fellas! Definitely looking forward to the Couples dance on the 15th. It is sure to be interesting – to say the least!

Keep it coming Cleveland!
