Congradulations to 2007 Midwest Dancehall Queen - Skittles!

As much as we like to be everywhere, with so many blazin’ events this summer, it is close to impossible. Chat ‘Bout Cleveland supporter, Destiny, gave us the scoop on the 3rd Annual Midwest Reggae Dancehall Queen Competition that went down July 7th……

Congratulations to Dancehall newcomer, Skittles. (above with 2006 DHQ Pochahantas). Second AND third place went a few DHQ’s from St. Louis (who knew?)

As a guest judge, Destiny received the red carpet treatment as she made her stunning appearance in a limo with the Nocturnal Crew from Detroit and Canada’s Dancehall Queen and Dutty Wine Champ, Simone.

The sound for the evening, Killa Face, gave Destiny as well as other dancehall celebrities in the house; including Chicago’s own Candi, Montana (chicagoreggae.com), and Midwest Dancehall Queen 2006 Pocahontas much respect as he played the latest dancehall tunes mixed in with his custom dubs specially selected for the evening.

The event was pure craziness from the beginning with a mix of dancehall vixens from Cleveland, Detroit (Blackberry and Empress), Canada and of course Chicago. The place was so jammed packed; immediate plans are in the works for a new venue for NEXT year’s competition (Cleveland, perhaps?).

Sounds like a great a event that I hope will continue year after year. To hold you until next year’s competition, here are a few pics sent us…

For more info about the 2007 Midwest Dancehall Queen Competition, log on to:

Will definitely be in the place next year,

Bashy

Thanks again to Destiny, chicagoreggae.com and noskaiproductions.com for the link to the pics!

In order of appearance: Contestants of the 2007 Midwest Dancehall Queen Competition, dancehall honies from The Nocturnal Crew out of Detriot, DHQ Candi (in headband) from Chicago, More Nocturnal Crew, The event was a Sell - Off!

Ocean Wave - Giving Back to the Community!

Family, food and fun was the theme for Ocean Wave’s 1st Annual Caribbean Style Community Party held at Ocean Wave located at 12524 Kinsman Road. We say first since organizers promise that next year’s event will be an even bigger event as surrounding businesses will collaborate on future community projects.

Chat ‘Bout Cleveland was greeted with a slew of events including kids face painting, free hot dogs and hamburgers (served by Ocean Wave owner, Eye), slushies and a reggae jump around for the kids (donated by Mr. Dailey, who couldn’t attend, BUT we were able to support him as well at the Soul of Buckeye Festival).

It was a great event enjoyed by all who attended the all day festivities. The one thing missing? Y O U ! We would like to say we say a few Dancehall Regulars at this event, but during the time we were on site, we may have missed a few.

Couldn’t fit the Community Day into your schedule? Take time to stop by Ocean Waves and let them know you recognize their efforts in our community, inquire about future projects, buy a beef patties (or two), or treat yourself and sit in for an order of Sticky Chicken, Stew Beef or (my fav) Curry Goat, I am sure your support will be greatly appreciated as well…..

As we full heartedly enjoy the bashes throughout the year, let’s also take time to come out and support the community based events with our numbers as well. Since it is our commitment to keep you posted about the latest in all things affecting Cleveland’s Caribbean community, be mindful that we will always support community based events such as these.

With that in mind, as the Summer is in full swing, if there is ANY community service based events in which Chat ‘Bout Cleveland can assist, let us know!

Keep giving back,

Bashy
